Congratulations, Wolf Swamp School!  We had a great start to the new year.  The students all worked hard to create a "tech" project for Open House.  Here is some of their work.

The First Graders went on the iPads and used Drawing Pad.  They took their picture and wrote a sentence about what they liked about school so far.

Here is a PowerPoint of Ms. Holmes's first graders!  Enjoy

The new Kindergarten class is starting to use iPad apps. We started with a Coloring App, and have moved on to a Drawing app called Doodle Buddy.  We listened to The Rainbow Fish by Marcus Pfister and The Very Hungry Caterpillar by Eric Carle using the computer.  They drew wonderful rainbow fish, caterpillar and butterfly pictures.

The 2nd graders are starting to learn what a word processing program is used for in the classroom.  We have just started with the iPad and Pages app  and have worked on some great "All About Me" posters.  Here a a few.

The 4th graders have been creating Wordles.  The first one was about the summer reading book, The One and Only Ivan.  The second one was created from geography words associated with the BrainPop videos about geography  themes.  Here a couple of examples:

The 3rd graders worked hard on a creating a QR-Code about themselves.  Using a QR-Reader app, the computer generated voice reads the sentence they wrote!  They have also been hard at work starting up their Google Accounts.  Lots and lots of hard work goes into this, and they have been learning how to log on both the laptops and the Chrome Books.

The 5th graders worked very hard this year at creating unique TV shows.  They tried commercials and other new items, some worked out and some did not work out.  But they continued on and created some great shows.  This is the last one for this year, please enjoy.

The 4th graders in Mrs. Aronson's room have been hard at work using their Google Accounts and the Google Drawing and Research to create Landmark projects.  Enjoy their hard work.

The 5th graders are still hard at work and have finished the May WSR TV show!  They are certainly being creative this year.  Enjoy!

The first graders have been hard at work learning about coins.  We have explored coins using a Smartboard lesson, PicCollage and finally Explain Everything where they could become the "teacher" and show off their coin knowledge.  Here is one example.

Thanks to the hard work of Mrs. Zguro's class, we have the March Wolf Swamp Review TV show.  This is their last one and the next 3 will be created by Mrs. Jarry's class.  The students work very hard on these and try to be very creative.  Please enjoy!

Thanks to everyone who helped with the 2015 Technology in Education Showcase (TIES)!  It was a huge success and a lot of fun. It is a huge undertaking and takes a lot of preparation.  I appreciate all the hard work that the 4th and 5th grade participants did to prepare for the event. If you would just like to watch the video about TIES, click on the video below.

Some of the 5th graders have been participating in an engineering design class where they had to look at bridge design, then design their own bridges using Kleenex boxes, popsicle sticks and pipe cleaners.  Here is their final "show" of the good and the bad!  Enjoy.

1st graders have been hard at work learning the names of coins, what is on them, and what they are worth.  They also are learning a new powerful iPad app, Explain Everything.  For this project, they created a Pic Collage with the coin name,  and the front and back of the coin.  In Explain Everything they pretended to be the teacher and were teaching their students the value of each coin.  Explain Everything records your voice and your actions on the screens (multiple screens can be created, we only created one)

Programming using Code.org is happening in 3rd through 5th grade!  Students are just starting the program and learning about algorithms and beginning programming skills.  The "Angry Bird" setup of the lessons is very engaging and the students are enjoying the coding.

The 1st graders are learning the coins.  We had a fun Smart Board touch screen lesson that I developed, and the students did a great job participating and taking turns.  After learning a little bit about the coins the students used Pic Collage to see if they could discover what the "front" and the "back" of pennies, nickels, dimes and quarters looked like.  Here are a couple of their discoveries.

3rd graders are learning about computer programming and we are starting to learn to Code!  After practicing with the Smart Board and some general information about algorithms, they tried using Scratch Jr. on the Ipads.  They created programs to make the cat move all the way around the screen in a box shape and then jump up and down at the end.  Finally they added a background.  The skills are starting!  Their coding is at the bottom of the screens.

When you run the programs, you use full screen capability and off the cat goes!

The 5th graders also have been busy researching electricity using the library's online encylopedias, Grolier Trueflix and the following websites: http://www.thetech.org/exhibits/online/topics/10a.html and http://www.sciencekids.co.nz/sciencefacts/electricity.html.

Here are a couple of their awesome "e-books" created on their Google accounts using presentations.

Kindergarteners listened to my favorite book The Legend of Spookley: the Square Pumpkin, and used the iPad app DoodeBuddy to create their own version of a pumpkin patch.  Fun times.  Love Spookley!

5th graders are practicing their skill using their Google Accounts by creating a list of Science words from Chapter 1 in a Google doc.  Then they copy and paste those words into www.wordle.net and create a wordle to be saved in their Google doc.  They are working hard and learning how to successfully use their Google Accounts in their classrooms with their teachers and with me in Technology.  Go 5th graders!

2nd graders are using the iPad app Kidspiration and learning about Life Cycles along the way.  In their classroom they are learning about the life cycle of the Butterfly and in Technology we learned about the life cycle of the pumpkin.  They also learned to search for images using Google and find a picture of a jack-o-lantern!  Enjoy all their hard work.

3rd graders are learning about QR-codes and how to make them.  We started by using the website QRVOICE.net and typing in something about ourselves.  Then you create the QR-code and use a QR-code reader app.  All of a sudden, a computer voice will read the information from the QR-code.  How fun!  Now we will be trying QR-stuff.com , stay tuned!
