The first graders have been hard at work. Working in pairs or partner of three, they had to construct a "How To" story with 4 steps. After coming up with a topic, and writing the 4 steps they used the iPad app, PicCollage, to write their steps and illustrate the steps by taking pictures with the iPad camera. Here a two examples:
The fourth graders have been hard at work learning about Canada and the
13 provinces and territories and working on a project about Canadian
animals. We used the Canadian Geographic website: www.cgakids.ca, they
chose an animal, researched and took notes to create a Google Drawing
for that animal. After that, we practiced our interviewing skills and
used the green screen. With the Google drawing, and the green screen
interview, we moved onto learning how to use iMovie. Here are some
examples:

The second graders have been working on learning different types of landforms. We had a fun SmartBoard Activity first, then they were able to read some online books about different landforms using the Landform app on the iPads. Using the iPad Kidspiration, they worked in groups to come up with 4 clues to give to their fellow students to see if those students could guess which landform they were describing. We took those 4 clues and took it to the green screen, and created videos of our "Who or What am I"? game. Here is one of those videos!
The third graders are trying out the new Finch robots. They are expanding their knowledge of coding to make the robot move forward, back, go left and right and change colors. They will be using the SNAP code first and then move on to learning the SCRATCH programming language.

Happy New Year! Welcome to 2016. Here is an update on what is happening in Technology.
The 5th graders are hard at work researching a new exciting topic - Electricity - in both library and technology. They have started an e-Book in Tech using Google presentation, but it is formatted to look like a book! Currently, they are learning the terms "insulators" and "conductors" and are testing their thoughts using MAKEY-MAKEY kits.

The first graders are studying seasons and poetry. In technology, they used the word processor Pages on the iPads, to create an acrostic poem about FALL. They learned so much about typing on the iPad, using the program, thinking up words that started with F, A and L. They also tried drawing their Fall picture in Drawing Pad App on the iPads. Here are some examples of their hard work.

First graders are learning about the Water Cycle. After working with a Smart Board Activity, we decided to try using the green screen to create a water cycle movie. They read their classroom Water Cycle Poem. The second graders have also been using the green screen, by learning about the pumpkin life cycle. They enjoyed a Smartboard activity, touching a real pumpkin and pumpkin seeds and learning the steps to the life cycle. Please enjoy both videos.

Congratulations, Wolf Swamp School! We had a great start to the new year. The students all worked hard to create a "tech" project for Open House. Here is some of their work.
The First Graders went on the iPads and used Drawing Pad. They took their picture and wrote a sentence about what they liked about school so far.
Here is a PowerPoint of Ms. Holmes's first graders! Enjoy

The new Kindergarten class is starting to use iPad apps. We started with a Coloring App, and have moved on to a Drawing app called Doodle Buddy. We listened to The Rainbow Fish by Marcus Pfister and The Very Hungry Caterpillar by Eric Carle using the computer. They drew wonderful rainbow fish, caterpillar and butterfly pictures.
The 2nd graders are starting to learn what a word processing program is used for in the classroom. We have just started with the iPad and Pages app and have worked on some great "All About Me" posters. Here a a few.
The 4th graders have been creating Wordles. The first one was about the summer reading book, The One and Only Ivan. The second one was created from geography words associated with the BrainPop videos about geography themes. Here a couple of examples:
The 3rd graders worked hard on a creating a QR-Code about themselves. Using a QR-Reader app, the computer generated voice reads the sentence they wrote! They have also been hard at work starting up their Google Accounts. Lots and lots of hard work goes into this, and they have been learning how to log on both the laptops and the Chrome Books.

Thanks to the hard work of Mrs. Zguro's class, we have the March Wolf Swamp Review TV show. This is their last one and the next 3 will be created by Mrs. Jarry's class. The students work very hard on these and try to be very creative. Please enjoy!
Thanks to everyone who helped with the 2015 Technology in Education Showcase (TIES)! It was a huge success and a lot of fun. It is a huge undertaking and takes a lot of preparation. I appreciate all the hard work that the 4th and 5th grade participants did to prepare for the event. If you would just like to watch the video about TIES, click on the video below.
